Cape Flats writer, John W Fredericks, who found fame after publishing his memoirs about his former life of crime, has died at the age of 73.
According to various sources, it has been confirmed by his family that he passed away peacefully at home yesterday afternoon in his Strandfontein home. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.
His crime drama, Noem My Skollie, set in the Cape Flats in the 1960’s and for which he wrote the screenplay, was based on his memoirs. The movie won five SAFTA awards in 2017.
Fredericks completed his autobiography last year, Skollie: One man's struggle to survive by telling stories.
