Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet are just two of the A-listers featured in the 2017 Pirelli Calendar. The annual publication has been going since 1963, with photographer Peter Lindbergh helming the project in unison with Pirelli tires in 1996 and 2002. He's returned for next year's (17) edition and has orchestrated a stellar line-up of 15 famous females in a series of raw, natural images, which Lindberg dubs ?a counter message to (the industry?s) fake beauty ideal?.
Also starring in the calendar is Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren, Uma Thurman, Robin Wright, Lupita Nyong?o, Alicia Vikander, Julianne Moore, Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain, Charlotte Rampling, Zhang Ziyi, and Lea Seydoux. All the women - whose ages range between 27 and 71 - are stripped down to look laidback and casual, with Spanish beauty Penelope wearing a baggy T-shirt while Uma sports a turtleneck. "This Pirelli Calendar is a very important one, because you don?t have to do nudity anymore, you?re not under pressure to do anything with your body, which is great," Lindbergh told Vogue.com.
"Beauty today is really twisted, for commercial reasons, so people think beautiful is what you see in advertising and in magazines - all these retouched women."The photoshoot took place in New York's Times Square, a location previously favoured by Lindbergh. He describes the spot as a "madhouse" where everyone loses self-consciousness.The artist also commented on the difference between using Hollywood stars and fashion models - it's all to do with the lens."The one big difference between actresses and models is that models are fixed to the camera, and actresses never look at a camera if you don?t force them. They learn their whole life to be there and forget there?s a camera," he added.
