Britney Spears divides opinion with VMAs comeback

Britney Spears divided opinion with her long-awaited performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (28Aug16).The 34-year-old singer took to the stage at the star-studded ceremony in New York alongside her musical collaborator G-Eazy to perform her single Make Me...Wearing a glittering gold leotard with silver straps down each side and matching knee-high boots, Britney looked in the best shape of her life as she writhed around to the sultry sounds of the track. The sexy routine also saw G-Eazy get involved, with Britney placing her perfectly manicured hand on the rapper's crotch at one point. Britney's appearance at the ceremony marked her first performance at the VMAs in almost 10 years.

The last time she graced the stage at the awards show was in 2007, when she attempted to make a career comeback with a performance of her hit song Gimme More. However, critics savaged her return, poking fun at the fact she appeared shaky and stumbled across the stage. This time, the response was kinder, but Britney's rendition provoked mixed reaction from viewers. While many praised her for throwing her all into the performance, others blasted her for so clearly lip syncing to the song. Some also speculated that Britney's performance would have gone done better had Beyonce not taken to the stage beforehand. One viewer tweeted: "

#VMAs Whose idea was it to have @britneyspears perform after @Beyonce ?!"Beyonce, 34, wowed fans with an epic rendition of tracks from her most recent album Lemonade, and received a standing ovation from the audience. Despite the somewhat lacklustre response to Britney's VMAs comeback, the singer appeared happy with her performance. Taking to Twitter after the show, Britney wrote: "Tonight was unforgettable. Thank you #VMAs and thank you to my amazing fans!"Britney is enjoying a career resurgence thanks to her latest album Glory, which has been widely praised by critics and fans alike.
