Born in San Francisco, California, on 4 March 1907, one year after her parents emigrated to the country, the sprightly 115-year-old has been confirmed as the oldest woman living and oldest person living following the death of France’s 118 years old Lucile Randon.
According to Guinness World Records, Mrs. Morera is 115 years and 321 days old, as of 19 January 2023.
Maria returned to Spain as a child and has been living in a Catalonia nursing home, Residència Santa María del Tura, for the past 22 years.
María often takes to Twitter, with the help of her daughter, to share many a pearl of wisdom. “I am old, very old, but not an idiot,” reads her Twitter bio!
The Guinness World Records website says that she attributes her longevity to “order, tranquility, good connection with family and friends, contact with nature, emotional stability, no worries, no regrets, lots of positivity, and staying away from toxic people.”
“I think longevity is also about being lucky. Luck and good genetics.”
Maria has survived two World Wars, the Spanish Civil War, and the Spanish Flu pandemic, and survived contracting COVID-19 in 2020.
The home has said that there will be a small celebration in the residence to celebrate Maria’s longevity.
Bravo Maria!
