Mzansi Magic confirmed yesterday that season 16 will premiere on the channel August 2nd with Judges Randall Abrahams, Somizi Mhlongo and Unathi Nkayi. Proverb will once again pick up the hosting duties.
According to Mzansi Magic, the shooting of mass and online auditions, as well as the first two episodes, were completed before the government implemented the national lockdown in March.
While Idols SA Season 16 has been adhering to all the government lockdown guidelines and regulations whilst recording, the challenge for the production crew will be the live shows that feature studio audiences.
No doubt lessons can be learnt from their overseas counterparts American Idol and The Voice. The American Idol top 20 was filmed remotely in over 40 locations with all performances filmed on iPhones while Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, and host Ryan Seacrest, crossed over from their homes.
