Kim Kardashian credits social media for success in interview filmed pre-robbery

Kim Kardashian attributed her entire career to social media in an interview filmed before she was targeted by armed robbers. The mother-of-two's chat with Bill Whitaker aired on U.S. TV show 60 Minutes on Sunday night (23Oct16), but was shot some time before Kim was bound, gagged and held at gunpoint by a gang of masked robbers at her hotel apartment in Paris, France, in the early hours at the beginning of October. Since the traumatic incident, Kim has been holed up in her Los Angeles mansion, with her friends and family taking over her social media duties.

Sources close to the reality star claim she blamed herself after sharing images of her vast collection of expensive jewellery on sites like Snapchat, and vowed to curb her social media presence in the wake of the robbery. However, during her 60 Minutes interview, Kim was asked if she would be famous without her prolific social media presence, to which she replied: "Not in this way. I totally attribute my career to social media."

Whitaker didn't pull any punches during the chat, asking Kim a question many have wondered about when he quizzed her about what her actual talent is. But Kim had the perfect response: "It is a talent to have a brand that's really successful off of getting people to like you for you."I would think that has to involve some kind of talent, you know?"

Kim first became known as Paris Hilton's assistant, before a sex tape and subsequent reality television deal catapulted her into the spotlight. Since then, she has collaborated with sisters Khloe and Kourtney on various ventures, with her profile further increased when she married rapper Kanye West.

She also said during the interview that she thinks the pros of being famous and the lifestyle that comes with it outweigh the cons, adding: "I do believe that the pros in my situation and my lifestyle have been more beneficial than the negative things."Whitaker then said to Kim, "You monetised the act of living," to which she replied, "Yeah, I guess so".
