Untitled Unmastered was released to digital retailers and streaming services on 4 March through TopDawg/Afertmath/Interscope records. The physical CD was released on 11 March and an edited version is due on 18 March.

According to billboard.com the Untitled Unmastered album debuted at no.1 on the Billboard 200 chart, earning 178 000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 10, according to Nielsen Music. Of the 178 000 copies sold, 142 000 were pure album sales.

The success of the Untitled Unmastered album gives Lamar his second no. 1 album in less than a year.

According to Lamar the album consist of "demos from the 'To Pimp a Butterfly' album, in raw form." What makes the album even more authentic and exciting is that the tracks are uncoventionally titled as:

untitled 01 I 08.19.2014

untitled 02 i 06.23.2014 ...and so fourth.
