Winslet scooped the prize for best leading actress for her performance in “I am Ruth” at the BAFTA TV Awards Sunday night at London's Royal Festival Hall. “I Am Ruth,” also stars her real-life daughter Mia Threapleton.
In her powerful acceptance speech Winslet said that “ I am Ruth” was made for every parent, their children, and families who feel they are “held hostage by the perils of the online world”, and for young people who have become “addicted to social media and its darker side”.
She also made an impassioned appeal to the powers that be to criminalize and eradicate harmful online content saying, “We want our children back”.
