YE is a nickname Kanye West has used for many years, and now he wants it to be his official moniker.
Fans will remember that it was the title of his last studio album. It seems that Kanye wants to change to this name as it carries a deep spiritual meaning for him. He was once quoted as telling LA radio station Real 92.3, "I believe YE is the most commonly used word in the Bible, in the Bible, it means 'you.' So I'm you, I'm us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to being just YE - just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. I'm just more a reflection of who we are."
The 41-year-old announced his name on Twitter ahead of the release of his latest studio album Yandhi.
Kanye follows in the footsteps of many musicians who have changed their names. Diddy has been known as Puff Daddy, Puffy and P Diddy, Snoop Dogg was previously Snoop Lion, and Prince famously announced in 1993 that he would no longer go by the name Prince, but rather by a "Love Symbol" which was a confusing mash-up of the gender symbols for man and woman and impossible to pronounce.
