A judge has denied Britney Spears's request to remove her father as her conservator.
Just over a week ago Britney spoke in open court for the first time to address her controversial conservatorship, calling it “abusive” and asking for the judge to end the legal ruling. The legal agreement has been in place since 2008, putting Jamie Spears in control of her career and finances.
39-year-old Britney spoke at the Los Angeles court remotely and delivered an emotionally charged speech that lasted more than 20 minutes and shared some shocking revelations including telling the packed courtroom that she wants to marry her boyfriend, Iranian actor and model Sam Asghari, and have a baby, but the conservatorship won't allow her to. She told the court she is being forced to use birth control against her will.
But on Wednesday, June 30th, a Los Angeles judge refused to end the conservatorship, ruling: "The conservatee's request to suspend James P Spears… is denied without prejudice."
Judge Brenda Penny's ruling was not a result of the latest hearing but was instead made on a request from November by Britney's Lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham, who had asked for Mr. Spears to be replaced by Bessemer Trust.
Superior Court Judge Brenda did however add the wealth management firm as a co-conservator in charge of her finances.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for July 14.
