Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the 2017 Oscars. He confirmed the news on Twitter: "Yes, I am hosting the Oscars. This is not a prank. And if it is, my revenge on @TheAcademy will be terrible & sweet.”
Kimmel has previously hosted the American Music Awards and the Emmys twice - the Oscars will be his first.
Kimmel will be among other celebrities and comedians to have hosted the Oscars, with the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres and Seth McFarlane.
He follows after Chris Rock, who hosted the Oscars this year and delivered a controversial #OscarsSoWhite monologue. The ceremony suffered in television ratings, with an average of 34.5 million viewers.
Nominees will be announced 24 January 2017 and the Oscars will air 26 February 2017.
