The rocket company owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has suffered a dramatic first launch failure, but the escape system did swing into action, safely sending the crew capsule to safety.
As shared on their Twitter feed, flames can be seen shooting from the engine about a minute into the flight, after which the capsule is seen firing off from the rocket's nose.
It is reported that it landed in the Texan desert supported by three parachutes. The mission on Monday was crewless but is the same system used for launching people to the edge of space.
