Rescue dog Major will officially take up residence at the White House following the inauguration of the president-elect, Joe Biden and his wife Jill, in January next year. He is the first shelter pup to have the honour of 'serving' at the White House in the all-important role of man's best friend.
The Bidens adopted Major in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association, a nonprofit, no-kill animal welfare organization committed to “Making friends for life”. Major had been living with the Bidens for a while as a foster dog before they decided to adopt him. The rescue organisation have proudly taken to Twitter to celebrate the great news saying, “We still can’t believe our own DHA alum Major will be moving to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave this January!"

Many media houses have commented on the fact that the return of pooches to the stately residence will restore a long-held tradition of pets having a place in the White House. Take a look at Biden and Major together - it will melt your heart.
At 12 years old, Champ is the elder of the pair, while 2-year-old Major, will be adding a bit of bounce to the White House lawns. Here they are with mom, Dr Jill Biden.

Welcome back man’s best friend! President Trump was the first occupant in more than a century not to own a pet of some kind.
