Prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards will be going the way of late hip-hop star HHP, kwaito legends TKZee and the much loved 90s group Mango Groove on 31 May and 1 June at this year’s SMAMA Awards in Sun City.
HHP - who died last year - will be remembered for being a trailblazer in the industry, he was one of the first artists to make rapping over a kwaito beat popular.
The much-loved TKZee was formed by three school friends, Tokollo Tshabalala, Kabelo Mabalane, and Zwai Bala way back when. The trio found fame in late 1997 and early 1998 with their hit singles Palafala and Shibobo.
The unique sound of Mango Groove started in 1984 scoring many SA hits and unifying the South African nation with their multi-ethnic sound during the apartheid years.
There will be a live broadcast of the SAMAS on SABC1 June 1 starting at 8 pm.
