Harry and Meghan's son Archie celebrates first birthday
Queen Elizabeth II sent birthday greetings on Wednesday to her eighth great-grandchild, Archie, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, as he turned 1 year old.
"Happy birthday to Archie Mountbatten-Windsor who is celebrating his 1st birthday today!" Buckingham Palace tweeted, with a photograph of the queen meeting Archie, Harry, Meghan and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland last year.
Harry's elder brother, Prince William, and their father, Prince Charles, also tweeted birthday wishes to Archie.
Charles' office, Clarence House, posted a photograph of him with Archie after his grandson's christening in July.
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is seventh in line to the throne behind Charles, William, William's three children, and Harry.
Harry, 35, and Los Angeles-born former actress Meghan, 38, announced in January that they planned to "step back" from royal duties from next month and lead a more independent, private life based mainly in North America.
They recently moved their main home to Los Angeles.
Harry and Meghan revealed plans last month to launch a charitable organization, Archewell, using the Greek word Arche, meaning a source of action.
The Greek word also inspired their choice of their son's name, British media reported.
The couple also announced last month that they planned to end all media contact with Britain's biggest tabloid newspapers, after their lawyers warned in January against media harassment of the couple.
Harry and Meghan had previously denounced intrusive, inaccurate and hostile reporting in news and social media, including racism against Meghan, whose mother is black.
