Avid skier, Gwyneth Paltrow, has walked away triumphant from an eight-day civil trial in Park City, Utah, with the judge ruling that she is not liable for an accident on a ski slope involving a retired optometrist.
After little more than two hours of deliberation, a Utah jury unanimously decided that it was Terry Sanderson who had slammed into Paltrow on the slopes of the Deer Valley Resort more than seven years ago — and not the other way around. Seventy-six-year-old Anderson had alleged that the star had rammed into him and that the collision had left him with four broken ribs and lasting psychological damage, for which he demanded she pay $3.3 million dollars (R58 954 170). Paltrow countersued for a symbolic $1 (R17 85). Following the ruling fifty-year-old Paltrow released a statement to the media saying: "I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity.I am pleased with the outcome." The trial, live-streamed for all the world to see, made headlines across the globe and became a hot topic on social media.
