Actress and businesswoman Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa was visibly emotional at her court appearance Monday, speaking briefly to members of the press to say that her “ priority is to protect her children.” Since her appearance at the Randburg Court, the estranged wife of Black Coffee has been trending on Twitter with followers pledging their fervent support of her.
It is believed that she is seeking a protection order from her husband and DJ, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known by his stage name, Black Coffee.
Details of their separation first emerged back in 2019. At the time, Black Coffee said in an interview that they had tried everything to save their relationship. However, reports then emerged that he had fathered two children outside of the marriage. This, in addition to the abuse that Mbali alleges he subjected her to, was the final straw for her.
Mbali told reporters before Monday's proceedings: “It is my duty as a woman to not only fight for myself but for every single woman in South Africa. The time is now.”
Plenty of activists were seen outside the court building showing their support for the actress with banners saying #JusticeForEnhle, #HandsoffEnhle and “Am I Next?”.
The NGO, Women for Change, took to social media in support of Mbali saying, "We are with you, and so thousands of other women in this country. Thank you for your bravery @enhlembali_
