The 37-year-old rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor, is down R13m after placing a $700 000 (R13 million) bet on South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis losing his UFC 297 middleweight title fight against American champion Sean Strickland on Saturday.
Drake, well known for his love of placing large bets on UFC fights, had confidently posted his betting slip on an Instagram story for his over 145 million followers to see.
The Canadian singer stood to win $679 000 (R12.6 million) – and have his initial stake returned – if Strickland had been victorious.
Ironically, in clips doing the rounds on social media, the Pretoria-born fighter, walked out of the ring at the Scotiabank Arena in Canada, to the theme song of Drake’s 2018 hit single, God’s Plan.
AFeldmanMMA was one such X user who shared the clip.
