Disney strengthens disclaimer warning viewers about racial stereotyping

Peter Pan

In November of 2019, Disney brought out a disclaimer for movies such as Dumbo, Peter Pan, The Aristocrats, The Swiss Family Robinson, the original The Jungle Book, and original, The Lady and the Tramp. The disclaimer warned viewers about the  “negative depictions”  and the “mistreatment of people or cultures” in these classic movies.

The streaming giant has now strengthened the wording of its disclaimer warning viewers of the racial stereotyping in a 12-second disclaimer that cannot be skipped. The new disclaimer reads :

"These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together. Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe. To learn more about how stories have impacted society, please visit www.disney.com/StoriesMatter."

The company also said that  while it can't change the past, "we can acknowledge it, learn from it and move forward together."

Media houses across the globe took to social media to share this vitally important news.
