Chris Pratt to receive special 'Generation' award from MTV

San Francisco (dpa) - US actor Chris Pratt, star of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World" movie series, will receive the MTV Generation Award in June from the MTV Movie & TV Awards, the music channel said Thursday.

Pratt, 38, is currently starring in "Avengers: Infinity War." His next film, "Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom," is due out in US cinemas next month.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement in entertainment. Past recipients include Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg and Jamie Foxx.

Last year the trophy went to the action series "Fast & Furious,"marking the first time a film series and not an individual actor won.

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards are the 27th edition of the event. Comedian Tiffany Haddish will host the show on June 18 in LosAngeles.

The box office hit "Black Panther" and the science fiction-horror television series "Stranger Things" lead the nominees with seven and six nominations, respectively. Nominees are decided by producers and executives at MTV, while the winners are chosen online by the general public.
