X-Men: Days of Future Past actress Fan Bingbing has been ordered to pay tax fines totaling $130 million by Chinese tax authorities.
The amount covers her personal tax evasion and the companies she represents.
According to a report by Xinhua, Fan will not be investigated as long as her taxes, fines, and late fees are paid on time.
Fan published an apology on her blog weibo.com, saying she acknowledges the tax charges she is facing and would “try my best to overcome all difficulties and raise funds to pay back taxes and fines.”
“I am unworthy of the trust of the society and let down the fans who love me.”
The Xinhua report said Fan evaded 7.3 million yuan in taxes by using a secret contract worth 20 million yuan that she signed for starring in the Chinese film “Unbreakable Spirit.”
The Chinese state media said this investigation would serve as a warning to others working in the entertainment industry.
