Celebrated actress Connie Chiume dies aged 72

Connie Chiume was honoured with the Living Legend award at the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture’s inaugural Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (CCIAs) on 30th March this year.


The family of the internationally acclaimed star has announced news of the passing of the award-winning South African icon.

Sharing a post on social media they wrote :

"The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the international[ly] acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume,"

Chiume died at Garden City Hospital on Tuesday, 6 August, her cause of death has not been disclosed. 

Chiume will be remembered for her many roles on South Africa’s small screen as well as for her much-lauded appearances globally in movies such as Black Panther (2018) and Beyonce's Black Is King (2020). 

Chiume was honoured with the Living Legend award at the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture’s inaugural Cultural and Creative Industry Awards (CCIAs) on 30th March this year.
