Social media was awash with tributes Monday as news broke of the popular Arendsvlei actor’s death. The tragic news has since emerged that the 34-year-old actor suffered from depression and committed suicide, passing away on Sunday.
In a statement, Ceagan’s family said: “It is with a sad and heavy heart that we inform our friends and fans that our beloved Ceagan Arendse passed away early Sunday morning February 14, 2021.
“Ceagan, unfortunately, lost his battle with depression and succumbed to the disease by suicide.
“He leaves behind his wife Ziggy Arendse, his children, his parents Desmore & Bertram and Bevan Arendse, his brother.
“We would like to take this time to thank everyone for their condolences and while we are not able to respond to everyone at this time, we appreciate the best wishes.”
Ceagan had gathered a loyal following of fans for roles in several kykNET soap operas, most recently in the role of Woelag in the series Arendsvlei.
He is still to be seen in the Showmax Original Skemer series, shot in October, it is due for release later this year.
On behalf of Penguin Films, Tarryn Josephs took to social media to express their devastation at Ceagan’s passing saying: “Penguin Films and the Arendsvlei family are devastated to hear of Ceagan’s passing. It has always been a pleasure to work with him on various productions. He will be remembered as a kind and hardworking artist. Our hearts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.”
