Saturday night saw the legendary Caiphus Semenya celebrate his 80th birthday in true theatrical style at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg.
The evening took the form of a dinner with performances afterwards by many of South Africa's greatest talents such as Sipho Hotstix Mabuse and Condry Ziqubu. The guest list was equally as impressive, Dali Mpofu, Julius Malema, minister of arts, culture and sports Nathi Mthethwa as well as the MEC of arts, sports and recreation Mbali Hlophe, were just some of the high profile personalities in attendance.
All monies raised from the evening went towards the completion of the arts academy NAAPA.
Even though he has now officially become an octogenarian there is no slowing down for Semenya who, together with his wife, is in the process of building a music and acting school in Jabulani, Soweto.
