Another option for local viewers will soon be here in the form of the streaming venture between ITV and the BBC. Called BritBox, it will feature popular series such as ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘Absolutely Fabulous’.
It will be officially available in South Africa on 6 August at a cost of R99.99 a month with a free, seven-day trial "with no obligations" to subscribe option. There is also an opening deal offering customers 2 months “free” if they sign up for a one-year subscription of R999.90.
BritBox International CEO Reemah Sakaan said during a virtual press conference that South Africa was chosen as the next launch region because there was a massive following of British TV and movie content in the country.
BritBox will be available on the Web as well as on mobile and tablet devices.
Popular shows to be streamed include Blackadder, Broadchurch, Line of Duty, Mr. Bean, The Office, Fawlty Towers, and Young Victoria.
In addition to plenty of catch-up series, premieres will be streamed within hours of their UK transmission.
