Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known by his stage name Black Coffee, has vehemently denied allegations by his estranged wife, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, that he assaulted her.
The 45-year-old record producer, singer, and songwriter took to social media and posted a slew of tweets proclaiming his innocence in the face of Mlotshwa’s allegations.
In the series of tweets, he said that he had personally grown up witnessing GBV in his own household and from a young age had vowed never to allow it to happen again under any circumstances writing, “ I DID NOT assault Mbali, the mother of my children. I didn’t do it now and I have never done It before”.
Another tweet stated: “Divorce is never easy but for us, it has been especially painful and I've spent the last 3 years in and out of intense therapy to deal with it privately. Every day I am attacked by relentless lies and falsehoods. I DID NOT ASSAULT HER.”
He also said that he found it “ truly regrettable that she has chosen to mislead the public using the name of GBV and seeking a protection order against me to separate me from my children and our home”.
Maphumulo made it clear that he felt it necessary to speak out in the name of “ respect and dignity for my family and my children.”
Mlotshwa made a brief appearance Monday at the Randburg Court to seek a protection order from Maphumulo.
Maphumulo has agreed to the demands of the interim court order but said on Twitter: “As a law-abiding citizen, I will absolutely observe the demands of the interim order but will categorically oppose the permanent installation of its prescripts and this is why we are currently in court”.
