"Zuma silent on hate crimes" DA

The Democratic Alliance has accused president Jacob Zuma of remaining silent while hate crimes continue.

DA parliamentary leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko, was commenting on the brutal murder of Thapelo Makutle, whose decapitated body was found in his home over the weekend.

He had held the title of Miss Gay, Kuruman.

Mazibuko says this violent and gruesome assault is yet another reminder that many people are still denied basic rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

She says there has been a spate of homophobic hate crimes including so-called "corrective rape" taking place across the country.

Mazibuko says the silence on these issues by the president has been deafening.
