President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on communities in KwaZulu-Natal to desist from undermining the rule of law and inflicting damage on the economy.
The protests, which erupted in the early hours of Friday morning, were in response to the incarceration of former president Jacob Zuma.
The N3 Toll Concession confirmed on Saturday that 23 trucks, including a tanker and a car carrier, had been torched.
President Ramaphosa says the impact of public violence against the road freight industry and damage to freeways that serve as economic arteries will also impact the people organising and committing these crimes.
The President says criminal elements must face the full might of the law.
The African National Congress (ANC) echoed the statements of the President and condemned the protests in the strongest terms.
Stakeholders have been deployed to KZN to intervene immediately.
Police have already arrested 23 people who will be charged with public violence and damaging infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Former President Jacob Zuma's daughter, Dudu Zuma-Sambudla has come under fire on Twitter for seemingly "praising" the anarchy in Kwazulu Natal under the hashtag #FreeJacobZuma.
