President Jacob Zuma joined thousands of commuters on a packed Metrorail train on Thursday morning to experience public transport first hand.
The president, along with Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane, moved from one coach to the other greeting and talking briefly to commuters, who were surprised at the huge police contingent, Metrorail staff and numerous news crews.
Zuma's tour, dubbed "The President's Monitoring Visit 2012" is an opportunity for him to assess public transport in Gauteng during rush hour.
The president is also expected to board a train from Pretoria to Sandton, and then the Gautrain to Park Station, before taking a ride on a Rea Vaya bus to Soweto.
