Zille welcomes re-election as DA leader

DA leader Helen Zille said she was "deeply aware" of the responsibilities that came with being re-elected as the party's
leader.

Zille was re-elected unopposed at the party’s federal congress this weekend.

She said on Sunday that she interpreted her re-election as “the congress’ support for our goal of building a new majority at the non-racial centre of South African politics."

Zille said “we will work tirelessly together to become a party of government across our country. We know realignment will not be
easy."

She also paid tribute to former Eastern Cape premier, Nosimo Balindlela, who recently quit Cope to join the DA.
Zille said Balindlela had attended the congress for the first time as a paid up member of the DA.

Meanwhile, Wilmot James was voted in as the DA's federal chairperson, while his deputies are Mmusi Maimane, Anchen Dreyer, and Makashule Gana.
