Former DA leader, Helen Zille, is hoping to succeed James Selfe as the Chairperson of the DA's Federal Council.
She announced on her social media pages on Friday that she had made herself available as a candidate for the council election.
Selfe said in June that he would be stepping down from the position this month.
Zille said she was approached by various senior leaders this week, and after much consideration, decided to throw her name in the hat.
She said in recent months the DA has been in turmoil and distress, adding that it was important to reflect and reconnect with voters.
Anaylsyt Ebrahim Fakir believes the DA has reached a moment of crisis.
He said the party was “deeply factionalised” and “pulling in different directions” and without a “coherent and principled identity” adding that perhaps Zille might be able to assist.
