Western Cape premier, Helen Zille, says the deadline for applications for the Province's Year Beyond Programme has been extended to the end of this month.
This is to allow matriculants and university graduates who are interested in participating in the programme from the beginning of next year to still apply.
Zille says Year Beyond is a Western Cape Government initiative run in partnership with a number of NGOs to implement an after school academic enrichment programme in schools with Mass Opportunity and Development centres.
She says the Programme involves top matric and university graduates volunteering to tutor primary and high school learners in these centres in order to improve education outcomes in the Western Cape.
Zille says the programme will be rolled out at 24 schools at the start of the 2015 school year and will provide English literacy and numeracy support in primary schools and English, Maths and homework support in high schools.
The closing date for applications for the 2015 "Year Beyond" programme is now 30 November. Young people under the age of 25 years who are interested in becoming a volunteer can apply at www.westerncape.gov.za/yearbeyond
