The Health Professions Council of South Africa has found Dr Wouter Basson guilty on five counts of unprofessional conduct.
The Council rendered its verdict a short while ago, six years after charging the apartheid chemical warfare expert.
Basson was not present when the Council announced its findings in Pretoria on Wednesday.
He had been previously acquitted in criminal cases brought against him.
The spokesperson for the Health Professions Council, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, says he was acquitted on one count related to the manufacturer of a teargas chemical.
"Dr. Wouter Basson has been found guilty of unprofessional conduct on counts 2.2, 4, 5 and 6 by the committee of the HPCSA. At this stage we are awaiting dates to be set where both sides can argue in litigation of sentence" she said.
