A Mpumalanga woman who claimed to be Deputy President, David Mabuza’s niece will spend the next seven years in prison on several charges including concealing her real identity and opening a false case of kidnapping and robbery.
The 32-year-old Nomfundo Sambo was sentenced at the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to all charges in August.
The Hawks who welcomed her sentence said she was arrested in March last year after making startling allegations that Deputy President Mabuza had conspired to murder a businessman in November 2018.
An investigation into the allegations, however, revealed that he was not in the country at the time.
Sambo was sentenced to 5-years imprisonment without the option to pay a fine for masquerading as Mabuza’s niece under the pseudo names of Thandeka Mabuza.
She received another 7-years without the option to pay a fine for opening a false kidnapping, theft and robbery case in which she claimed to have lost a work laptop and R4000 in cash.
She also received further 6-years imprisonment for the fraudulent purchase of furniture valued at R28000 at Russells in Hazyview.
Sambo was released on R3000 bail but rearrested for failing to attend subsequent court appearances remained in custody until her sentencing.
She will serve an effective 7-years imprisonment.
