Woman in court for being in possession of a 7kg gold bar

 A woman from Thabong, in the Free State, has appeared in court on charges relating to possession of a gold bar.

The 50-year-old woman appeared in the Welkom Magistrate's Court after the gold bar was found at her home.

Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana said the organised crime unit had received a tip off, which found the gold bar buried in the garden of the woman's shack.

A piece of the gold bar had been cut off and was allegedly used to buy luxuries and attract potential buyers.

The suspect was released on bail and will appear in court again on the 20th of September.

The estimated value of the 7kg gold bar is around 3 million rand.
