President Jacob Zuma has extended his condolences to the families of the ten people, including nine young girls, killed in a bus accident near eShowe in KwaZulu-Natal.
The victims were returning from the annual Umhlanga reed dance ceremony hosted by King Zwelithini at his royal Palace when the accident happened.
Zuma says he is shocked and saddened by the tragic and horrific loss of life, following a successful cultural event that promotes self-confidence among young women.
Kwazulu Natal Health MEC, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, said police should probe whether the bus was overloaded or unroadworthy.
There are patients who are critical at the moment and they might be airlifted to Durban so we want to go and assess the situation" he said.
