A 34-year-old woman who allegedly left her two children inside a locked car at shopping centre was released on R2000 bail, police said on Tuesday.
Shelly Khumalo would return to the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on January 9, said Captain Shado Mashobane.
The woman was arrested last Thursday at the River Square Mall in Three Rivers, Vereeniging, and charged with child neglect, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Mashobane said Khumalo arrived at the shopping centre with four children at 2pm, leaving a six-month-old baby and two-year-old in the car.
Car guards alerted paramedics who had to break the window of her black BMW to rescue the two severely dehydrated children who were also struggling to breathe.
Khumalo returned and allegedly hit a police officer upon seeing the broken window.
The children were rushed to Midvaal hospital for a medical check-up and were later released to their father and grandmother. (Sapa)
