A 17 year old youth has been arrested for the murder of a farmer in the Merweville area in the Karoo.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, says the shooting followed an apparent argument between the youth and 35 year old Frederick Snyders yesterday.
He says the youth approached Snyders and his wife who were sitting on their verandah early last night, grabbed a rifle from Snyders' bakkie and fired a shot at him.
Pojie says Snyders was hit in the head and died on the scene. The suspect also fired shots at Snyders' wife, but missed. The youth later handed the firearm to the wife and surrendered. He is due to appear in the Leeugamka Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
