A 66-year old Barrydale woman has died on a hiking trail in the area.

Western Cape Police members found Erna Gericke’s badly injured body about 6-kilometres into the trail in the early hours of Monday morning.

She’s parked her car in the parking spot for hikers near Rondomskrik in Barrydale at lunchtime on Sunday and was reported missing by her husband when she did not return home that evening.

Western Cape Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Potje says members also followed up on information about the deceased’s car which led to the retrieval of her vehicle and the arrests of two suspects for motor vehicle theft.

The suspects, aged 18 and 24 and from a farm in the area, are scheduled to appear in court later this week.

An autopsy will be performed on Gericke’s body to determine the possible cause of death but currently, no foul play is suspected.
