A 45-year-old widow from the small town of Praktiseer in the Sekhukhune District in the Limpopo Province has been arrested for failing to register her deceased husband's firearms.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says they received a tip-off from a community member and rushed to the premises on Tuesday morning.
He says the woman was at home with her sister and consented to her house being searched.
Ledwaba says members opened her safe where they found a rifle with 316 rounds of ammo, a hunting rifle with 16 rounds and a firearm with three magazines.
He says the woman inherited the guns from her husband and failed to surrender or declare the weapons.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo General Thembi Hadebe strongly cautioned the public to follow the correct procedures as inherited guns must be declared, registered, or surrendered.
The woman is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrates Court soon while investigations continue.
