Engineer arrested for attack on a police woman

File

A 49-year-old man appeared in the Richmond District Court in the Northern Cape for allegedly kidnapping a female police officer and assaulting her.

The National Prosecuting Authority said Titus Motloung, also faces a charge of sexual assault following the incident on Sunday when he gave the off-duty officer a lift.

“The incident emanates from an incident on 21 May, when the police officer was hiking from the town of Richmond, in the Northern Cape, on her way to Bloemfontein in the Free State,” said NPA spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane.

He said along the way the accused started to attack the victim.

“She tried to alert passing motorists and one noticed her gestures, while the accused refused to let her out of his car,” he said.

Senokoatsane said police were alerted and set up a roadblock in the Free State.

“When the accused realised there was a roadblock, he rammed his car against the barricade and the car caught fire. The accused was arrested and the victim was rescued by the police,” he said.

Motloung was remanded in custody until 30 May when he will make his next court appearance.
