Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, expressed outrage at a shooting at a Cape Town hospital on Saturday that left two patients dead and a policeman dead.
According to a police statement, Sea Point police had taken a 35-year-old suspect to Somerset Hospital for medical attention when a man in the ward grabbed the firearm of a police officer and shot him through the head.
Brigadier Novela Potelwa said,” the man then shot two patients who were in his proximity."
She said both patients died on the scene while the 32-year-old police officer succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Potelwa said SAPS officials on the scene subsequently disarmed the suspect and arrested him.
"The names of two other persons aged 42 and 48 who were killed during the shooting incident, are yet to be released," she said.
Winde, who visited the scene on Saturday night, sent condolences to the families of the victims.
