Western Cape farm workers to resume strike action

The Food and Allied Workers' Union says farmworkers are expected to continue their strike in Ceres, Wolseley and De Doorns today.

Rob Burn from Traffic SA reports that the N2 towards Grabouw has already been closed ahead of the expected protests.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Fawu called on Western Cape farmworkers to engage in peaceful strike actions and desist from engaging in violence.

Farm workers in the province went on strike late last year, demanding that their daily wages be increased from R69 -R150.
They also wanted a coherent land reform programme.

Two people were killed and property worth millions of rand was destroyed during the protests last year.
