Western Cape Transport Minister, Robin Carlisle has announced a 24% drop in road fatalities since the end of 2008.
He released statistics on the province's Safely Home Programme today saying that the lives of more than a thousand people had been saved over that period.
Carlisle says the success of the campaign is a result of the buy-in by members of the public and other social partners.
He says there was a marginal 6% drop in road fatalities in the Western Cape between 1 December and the end of January.
