Police in Piketberg in the Western Cape are investigating a case of murder and robbery after the body of 53-year-old farmer, Hendrik Pistorius was found on his farm on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says when they arrived at the scene they thought they would be responded to an injured victim but instead found the farmer's body halfway covered with a bin and already dead.
He says the victim had a blunt force trauma against the right side of his head and was reportedly killed between the hours of 3-7 am.
Captain van Wyk says an undisclosed amount of money was also stolen from the deceased's office.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Thoko Didiza expressed her shock at the senseless killing of Pistorius calling it a barbaric act.
No arrests have been made.
Captain van Wyk says at this point in time the motive is believed to have been a robbery.
