The SA Medical Association has warned local health professionals against applying for positions in the United Arab Emirates and similar countries.
This, follows the ongoing incarceration of respected pediatrician, Professor Cyril Karabus, in Abu Dhabi.
Sama said on Thursday that it had also advised doctors already working in the UAE to withdraw their services to avoid the risk of a Karabus-type incident.
Karabus, a retired paediatric hematologist, was arrested while in transit through Dubai in August.
He had been tried and convicted in absentia in 2003 for the death of a three-year-old patient he had treated during a locum at an Abu Dhabi hospital in 2002.
Sama said it had also written to the World Medical Association asking for their call to be distributed to member countries' associations.
