Girls from 19 schools nationwide will learn how to code courtesy of Vodacom.
The telecommunications company has started a coding program for girls between the ages of 14 and 18 who are interested in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
In a statement, Vodacom says the program aims to introduce underprivileged girls to coding basics and career paths related to current and future skills gaps.
The program will be delivered through a series of 5-day boot camps and on-site boot camps at 19 Vodacom Schools of Excellence across the country.
Solomon Mahlangu Secondary School in KwaNobuhle in Kariega will host the first on-site boot camp from Wednesday, the 25th until Friday, the 27th of September while the other will be held virtually.
"For the on-site boot camp, the participant must be a learner at a school or nearby a school that has a Vodacom School of Excellence which is equipped with laptops and internet connectivity," the statement reads.
According to Vodacom, learners who participate in this program will be earmarked for their bursary program which opens doors to their early career program and a long-term journey with the company.
