The Civil Aviation Authority has temporarily withdrawn the air operators certificate of embattled low-cost airline, Velvet Sky.
In a brief statement today the CAA said this will allow the authority to the opportunity to conduct the necessary safety and compliance oversight over the resumption of operations upon confirmation from Velvet Sky that they are ready to resume operations.
The Civil Aviation Authority says it will then review the situation and uplift the suspension if it is confident that safety and legal compliance is not compromised.
Velvet Sky has been grounded for several weeks because it owes creditors millions of rands.
Fuel company BP has also filed an application for the temporary liquidation of the airline.
