Cosatu secretary-general, Zwelinzima Vavi, has been suspended by the trade union federation.
Although there's been no official confirmation from Cosatu, his suspension has reportedly been confirmed by several sources including Numsa secretary-general, Irvin Jim.
Numsa and municipal workers union Samwu in the Eastern Cape have continued to back Vavi amid allegations that he had a sexual liaison with a co-worker.
She initially claimed to have been raped but later withdrew her complaint against Vavi when he revealed that the woman and her husband had tried to extort R2-million from him.
Vavi's suspension came after a meeting of Cosatu's central executive committee on Wednesday.
