The two alleged assassins accused of murdering Mark Lifman, a known member of the Cape Town underworld in November 2024 in George, made a brief appearance in the local magistrates court on Thursday.
The suspects, 53-year-old Johannes Jacobs and 37-year-old Gert Bezuidenhout face a charge of murder after Lifman was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall.
The duo was arrested near Uniondale shortly after the murder.
On Thursday, the court heard that ballistic reports and cellphone analysis reports were still outstanding.
Raw footage of seven cell phones, of which two have international numbers, also needed to be analysed.
Bezuidenhout and Jaobs are listed as protection service employees, and both have links to Professional Protection Alternatives (PPA), a security firm Lifman was once involved with.
Lifman, and alleged Sexy Boys gang leader Jerome 'Donkie' Booysen and their co-accused, were meant to appear in the Cape Town High Court in November 2024 for the murder of Brian Wainstein, dubbed the international steroid kingpin, who was gunned down in his Constantia home on 18 August 2017.
Wainstein was shot in front of his partner and a two-year-old child.
The gunmen took three cell phones before they fled, leaving the wife and child unharmed.
Lifman was facing multiple serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, money laundering, and gang-related offences.
He, along with security company owner Andre Naude, Booysen, and several others, faced a plethora of charges linked to alleged underworld battles for the control of nightclubs.
The case against Jacobs and Bezuidenhout was postponed until 15 April 2025.
They both remain custody.
